Website copywriting case study | Higher education

Website content writing for the Department of Methodology at The London School of Economics and Political Science, for their 30th anniversary webpages.

Catherine helped us with the content for our department’s anniversary web page by producing paragraphs of personal insight on staff’s research work and an article on the department’s history. She was very patient, collaborative, and professional. Thank you for your great work!

The Department of Methodology, LSE

The Department of Methodology at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is an international centre of excellence in social science methodology, offering postgraduate programmes and courses for students across the university. The Department of Methodology celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022.

The project

The Department of Methodology wanted to create dedicated 30th anniversary webpages containing a range of content, together with photos and videos about their department. I was tasked with creating copy for these dedicated webpages celebrating this event.

What I wrote and why

  • The project involved writing and editing profiles for the 24 research and academic staff in the department. Each profile was a 100 to 125 word summary and had a celebratory tone, focusing on academic achievements, fruitful collaborations or favourite pieces of research.

  • I created text for a webpage detailing the history of the department, in close collaboration with the Founder and the current Head of Department. The final 450 word piece detailed the rich history of the department.

·      I sourced and edited quotes from the Head of Department as part of the overall anniversary webpage design.

·      I wrote concise summary sentences describing the doctoral study in the department.

And finally…

This was a very enjoyable piece of work, and there was a great team behind this project helping with tracking down academic and research staff, designing the final webpages, and offering valuable feedback. The content was all upbeat and celebratory in tone, which made it fun to work with. The project came together in the end after several weeks and was a great way to mark this special occasion.
